Peat Cutting
Hubert Simpson, who lived at Heversham, took this series of photographs illustrating peat cutting on the South Lakeland mosses around 1935. (Hubert's father, Arthur Simpson, had Harold Stabler apprenticed to him as a wood carver.)
Helen Caldwell obtained these photos of peat cutting courtesy of Miss Jean Simpson who loaned them for scanning. Levens History Group have permission to reproduce them on this website provided that the photographer is acknowledged. If you copy, distribute, or display any of these photographs you must acknowledge the original photographer.
